Spring Break Assignment
Spring Break Assignment: TUMBL!
Please create your own online Tumblr account.
If you already have a Tumblr account: Please create a New Tumblr blog for class by clicking on the Circle with a plus sign in it. This way the class can look at material that will be specific to this assignment.
If you do not have a Tumblr account:
Step 1: Go to this website: https://www.tumblr.com/login
Step 2: Click on Sign Up
Step 3: Type in your email, your desired password, and your desired username. If you ever forget your username or password, you can get a link sent to your email.
Step 4: Click Start
Step 5: You will be able to Customize your blog and Upload a profile picture, but you are not required to do so. Note that your Dashboard is home base for you, and if you ever feel lost you can click on the Dashboard icon in the upper right hand corner of every Tumblr screen you navigate to.
Step 6: Click on the Explore Tumblr button and search categories you enjoy. This is your time to start navigating through the “blogosphere” and getting a feel for searching for visual material that you are interested in.
Step 7: Type in category you would like to search in the Search Tags box. This search engine will pull up visual material that relates to what you have written in the Search Tags box.
Step 8: While you are navigating, you will see a heart symbol in the right hand corner of each blog post. This is the place where you can tab your Likes. Please click the heart icon for at least ten things that you find on Tumblr and Like them. These Likes are saved up on your Dashboard. Please think about one particular Like that you find that you wish to show to the class after Spring break.
Step 9: For visual material that you REALLY like, you can Reblog it to your own Tumblr. To Reblog something, click on the icon that has two arrows pointing at each other in a circular motion. You will then be sent to your own reblogging station to post to your blog. At the bottom of this page, you can Preview your post, or simply just click on the icon that says Reblog Post. Now you have successfully reblogged!
Step 10: If you REALLY, REALLY like a lot of what one fellow Tumblr-er is posting, you can click on their Profile picture icon to the left of the post and reach their Tumblr page. Here, you can Follow the Tumblr page that you like. This way, you can see what this blogger will post on a more current basis.
If you are having navigating trouble, fear not! This is new! Try your best to navigate your way through this new visual world. The possibilities are endless on Tumblr; you are not expected to be a pro.
